Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 0.125 tsp salt
  • 2 cup whole milk
  • 1 oz semisweet chocolate finely chopped
  • 0.5 tsp vanilla extract

Method

  1. In a small saucepan, whisk together the cocoa powder, sugar, and salt.
  2. Gradually whisk in the milk until smooth.
  3. Set the saucepan over medium heat and cook, stirring often, for 4 to 6 minutes, until the mixture is steaming; do not let it boil.
  4. Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the chopped chocolate until melted.
  5. Stir in the vanilla extract.

Notes

For the smoothest texture, do not let the hot chocolate boil. Refrigerate leftovers for up to 3 days; freezing is not recommended. For a dairy-free option, use unsweetened dairy-free milk and dairy-free semisweet chocolate.
