Ingredients

  • 1 bag (32 oz) frozen tater tots
  • 6 slices bacon
  • 1.5 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 2 green onions thinly sliced
  • 0.5 cup sour cream

Equipment

  • 1 large rimmed baking sheet
  • 1 skillet
  • 8 10-inch metal skewers

Method

  1. Heat the oven to 425°F.
  2. Set out a large rimmed baking sheet.
  3. Spread the tater tots in a single layer on the baking sheet.
  4. Bake for 25–30 minutes, turning once halfway through, until crisp and golden brown.
  5. While the tots bake, cook the bacon in a skillet over medium heat for 8–12 minutes, turning as needed, until crisp.
  6. Drain and crumble the bacon.
  7. Thread 6–8 hot tots through their centers onto each of 8 (10-inch) metal skewers.
  8. Arrange the skewers on the baking sheet.
  9. Sprinkle the tots evenly with the cheddar and bacon.
  10. Broil on high for 1–2 minutes, watching closely, until the cheese is melted.
  11. Scatter the green onions over the skewers.
  12. Serve immediately with the sour cream for dipping.

Notes

For the best crisp texture, serve the skewers right after broiling. Refrigerate leftovers for up to 3 days; freezing is not recommended because the tots lose their crispness. For a pork-free option, use turkey bacon.
